Platis Yialos is one of the most popular beaches of the island, filling with thousands of people during summer time attracted by the soft golden sand and the wonderful turquoise crystalline waters.
It is a fully organized beach, with many hotels lined in front of the beach. Here many people walk straight down to the beach from their rooms.
Its main dissadvantage is that there are many hotels and resaturants practivcally on the beach. The crowd is very different and far more cool than Psarrous, which is full of celebrities dressed with the most expensive outfits.
However it is quite well protected by the strong Meltemi (south-west) wind that is prevailing in Mykonos during the summertime.
The fact that is well protected from the wind makes it a good anchorage, so many boats anchor in the rocks that separates Platis Gialos from the near by cosmopolitan Psarou.
It offers sun beds, umbrellas, watersports facilities and many restaurants and bars. You can enjoy a drink on the beach on loungers with seats and table.
It is reachable by local bus leaving every half an hour from the capital.
From Platis Yialos, regular taxi-boats go to the beaches of the southern coast which are Paranga, Agrari, Elia, Paradise and Super Paradise.
