The Superyacht Chefs' competition, sponsored by SuperYacht World, was the highlight of the final day of the MYBA Charter Show
The MYBA Charter Show 2017 has come to a close after four days of business and socialising in Barcelona. Today saw the 70-metre Joy win Superyacht of the Show, with MYBA president Fiona Maureso awarding the captain and crew a hamper of food and drink and a congratulatory certificate. Joy’s charter manager Ben Harwood from Burgess congratulated the captain and crew on all their work over the course of the show, saying: “It’s testament to your hard work that you have been recognised in this way by the industry.”

This afternoon also saw the long-awaited results of the Chefs’ Competition, of which SuperYacht World are proud sponsors. After three tough days, the judges awarded the first prize for boats 39 metres and under to chef Jean Mathew of sailing yacht Twilight (available through Oyster Charter). The 40-54-metre category saw chef Mikeldi Corcuera from MQ2 (on charter through MySea) come out on top, while the first prize for a yacht 55 metres and over went to Dean Conbeer of Icon (shown by Camper & Nicholsons International).
Exhibitors and guests have started packing up their stands and wares, while those staying behind reflect on a successful week. Lucie Gardiner runs Rare Beauty, a salon based in the One Ocean Port Vell Gallery building in the heart of the marina. Open to yacht guests and crew, the salon was offering complimentary massage and hair treatments during the week, meeting both returning and new customers. “It has been a great event and we’ve had wonderful feedback from lots of people,” she says. “It was a great way to get one-to-one time with people in the industry, and a lot of the crew we met didn’t realise that the salon was open to them as well, not just yacht guests, so we were pleased to be able to reach a new audience. We’re really looking forward to the show next year again, we have really enjoyed our partnership with MYBA during the week, and of course our friends at One Ocean Port Vell!”
The show ended in the traditional boat show way, with crew vying to be the most creative with the horns. Special comment must go to QM2 for their entertaining ‘tunes’!
The weather didn’t deter the attendees from coming to the show all throughout the day, and as predicted the rain had cleared by the afternoon, paving the way for a gloriously sunny beach-themed after party this evening.
