AGIOS (SAINT) NEKTARIOS Monastery in AEGINA (EGINA) Featured
Saint Nektarios is the protector saint of Aegina. He was a bishop (named Pentapoleos Nektarios) and lived for 13 years in this monastery. After his death (9/11/1920), he was burried in the monastery. In 1961 he was declared a Saint. He helped the building of this monastery between 1904 and 1910 on the ruins of a previous Byzantine monastery (Agia Triada).
The Monastery is on the road to Agia Marina settlement, apploximately 6 km away from Aegina's.
The church has two tall bell-towers and 4 rows of windows with red archs for crowning. Nowdays it is a female monastery with fourteen nuns living there. It celebrates on the 9th of November and thousands of people gather on this day from all over Greece.
