AGIOI ANARGYROI monastery in ERMIONI, PELOPONESE

The Monastery of Saint Anargyri is located in the so named area, close to Ermioni. At this location used to be an ancient teple dedicated to Asklipios and there is also a spa. Acording to some information, the monastery was probably built at the 11th century and acording to other it is said that it was built by the byzantine emperor John Katakouzinos the 6th, around 1340. The monastery offered valuable help and shelter to locals during the Ottoman's domination and the Greek's Revolution against Turks.

Its decoration and murals are impressive, influence by Crete (Greek island). Visitors will also admire beautiful pictures of the Byzantine period. Moreover, the monastery has an important library with valuable old books.

In 1st of July a big fair is taking place in the Monastery.
