DOROUSA islet & bay - anchorage opposite Dorousa in AGISTRI Featured

Dorousa (Dorusa) is one of the most beautiful and popular anchorages in the Saronic Gulf and is found right after the lovely Aponissos. It is a lage round bay, with a rocky coastline, which offers transparent emerald waters and a lush pine forest which ends right before the sea.

"Dorousa" is actually the name of the tiny uninhabited islet found opposite the entrance of the bay but yachters name the whole area as "Dorousa". Some yachts anchor towards the eastern coasts of the islet. However the most beautiful spots for swimming are found inside the bay, close to the rocky coastline, where the waters are transparent and have an amazing blue-green colour. Towards the two ends of the bay the waters become dark and not so attractive.

Dorousa does not have a beach. However it is found very close to the exotic Dragonera beach and to the lovely Aponissos, which has a nice taverna, a tiny dock and a beautiful beach. This makes Dorousa even more attractive as an anchorage, because in a few minutes one may visit those wonderful places by tender (as long as it has a reliable engine) and also enjoy the facilities of Aponissos' taverna.

The area around the anchoarge is unspoiled, uninhabited and there is no road connection with the rest of the island.

Westwards, close to Dorousa, there are some sunken antiquities found below the surface of the sea.

ANCHORAGE INFO: The bay opposite Dorousa islet is well protected from North Eastern, Eastern and South Eastern winds. Exposed to all western winds. In case of westeries you may anchor at the eastern coast of Dorousa islet. In weekends and peak days the anchorage is full of yachts and it may even be hard to find a place to anchor safely. However, most yachts anchor there only for the day and the bay gets usually quieter by the afrernoon.

In any case you should anchor with mooring lines tied to the rocks on the shore.

HOLDING - SEA BOTTOM: Sea bottom mostly sandy but with some rocky patches. Choose carefully a sandy place to drop your anchor. The sandy parts offer good holding.
