KOUNDOUROS (AGIOS AIMILIANOS) beach, anchorage & settlement in KEA (TZIA) Featured

Koundouros is one of the most beautiful and the second most cosmopolitan beach in Kea (after Gialiskari), with sand and nice crystal green-blue waters. It is also known as Agios Emilianos (Aghios Aimilianos) or Kavia bay. It is organized with straw umbrellas and wooden sunbeds. A cozy beach cafe-restaurant is locaed right on it. It has a nice garden and facilities for kids. It attracts many boats of all kinds, especially during weekends and August. This is a dissadvantage because the beach becomes very crowded and sometimes dirty. Another taverna is found near by.

Koundouros is surrounded by beautiful villas, windmills and a few hotels. Moreover the whole area has many trees, which is extremery rare in Cycladian islands. Korissia (port) is apx 45 min by car.

Close to Koundouros there are also Panagitsa, Frear, Lygia and other beaches.

ANCHORAGE INFO: Koundouros is the second most popular anchorage in Kea after Vourkari. Therefore it becomes extremely crowded in weekends and sometimes it is hard to find a place to anchor safely. It is well protected from the N, N/E  but it is totally exposed to the S. In that case Pisses is better. However if the wnds are strong it is safer to go to Korissia or Vourkari.

It is better to anchor close to the NE side of the bay and tigh a line to a rock ashore.

DANGERS: Beware of the underwater reef in the middle of the entrance of Koundouros bay

HOLDING: Good, sandy Bottom

FACILITIES: Two restaurants, a beach bar, sunbeds, umrellas and a card phone on the road. No other facilities available. You may call a taxi to go to Ioulis or Korissia.
