PETRA (KALLIKATSOU) & PLAKI beaches in PATMOS

Petra beach is one of the most insteresting beaches in Patmos because of its landscape with the impressive rock lying at the end of a narrow piece of land. It is an organized beach with umbrellas, sunbeds and a cantina. It is found next to Grikos beach and fishing village (see separate listing)

Petra is also called "Kallikatsou", which is the name of a small crow that used to nest there.

Towards south, there is Plaki beach, which has sand, small peebles, a tree and is preferred by nudists. At the end of Plaki, there is a chain of small coves and beaches with shingle, not all of them accessible from the road.

One can climb to the the famous rock of Petra and enjoy the view, but be careful beacuse it is dangerous!

Ther you will see the hand made stairs, a water cistern and a drainage system (all functional unttill today), since it was a hermitage place.

ANCHORING INFO: Not very well protected from N/E (meltemi). Tragos islet offers adequate protection from S/E winds. Grikos (see separate listing), which is near is better protected from the meltemi. Suggested anchorage at about 8-9 meters.

Sea bottom: Soft sand, indifferent holding
